Japow

I was fortunate enough to pursue my love of skiing and powder for three weeks in the powder capital of the world. Hokkaido, Japan, is certainly as advertised.

For years, my best friends and I talked about taking a ski trip to Japan every time we saw an Instagram video of someone skiing chest-deep snow in the best conditions we had ever seen and then eating a large bowl of ramen. In the absence of a semester abroad, we decided to pursue our dream of skiing in Japan during the winter 2025 school break.

My three closest friends and I were joined by our photographer friend Forester Goodrich, who took many of the trip photos shown here. We were able to carve out three weeks from our winter break to ski and travel every day.

During our time in Hokkaido, we visited Niseko, Sapporo, Furano, and the Asahidake Ropeway. Except for a single late-night taxi from the airport (since the bus lines were closed), we were able to travel entirely using Japan’s public transportation.

Our trip was nothing short of perfect, and we were consistently taken aback by the kindness and hospitality of the Japanese people and the beauty of Hokkaido.

If I had to sum up our trip in one picture, this would be it.
